Back Browningia candelaris fruit with large leaves. The abundant leaf venation is just barely visible. I have visited populations of this species several times in Peru and Chile but have never caught it with mature, open flowers. This flower was one of hundreds lying on the ground around the bases of the plants -- the flowers appear to have fallen off the plant after opening and before ripening into fruits with mature seeds. For more details on this strange species (with juvenile and adult body forms), see Cactus Odyssey.
