habit--Galium aparine is an annual leaves, showing fine hook-like hairs--these hairs have little hooks at their tips, much like velcro, and thus G. aparine will stick readily to clothing!  What kind of leaf arrangement is present?
leaves again, after a rainstorm flowers in early Spring--the flowers occur in most of the leaf nodes.  How many petals are present?  This number is characteristic of the Rubiaceae.
